Neck pain is mostly caused by degenerative changes. These changes take place in the intervertebral discs and joints. Every patient does not need operation for neck pain. It is in only some cases, that cervical spine surgery is required. It is necessary in cases, when there is considerable pressure on the spinal cord. Surgery is important, because our spinal cord is at risk. To reduce the pressure on the spinal cord, the spinal canal is opened through surgery. This technique is called laminectomy.
