Dry Macular Degeneration

Dry macular degeneration is the most common amongst the two types of macular degeneration. Almost 90 % of the patients suffering from macular degeneration face the dry one. In medical terms, it is known as atrophic AMD or non-exudative or geographic atrophy.

In dry macular degeneration, drusen accumulates beneath the macula of the retina. Drusen refers to the yellow-white deposits. This leads to degeneration of the photo-receptors of the macula. The patient suffers from a gradual vision loss over a number of years.
